Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, February 6 (reporter Wang Jingyu) the Chinese middle school student sports delegation, which participated in the 2023 World middle school student Winter Games (hereinafter referred to as the “world middle Winter Games”), was established on the 6th and came from 6 provinces across the country, 36 middle school athletes from 21 middle schools in autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the central government will participate in 22 competitions in 5 major events, including alpine skiing, snowboard skiing, cross-country skiing, cold water jug and figure skating. The total number of delegations is 65.
The founding meeting of the delegation was held on the morning of the 6th by combining offline and online. According to Zhang Ailong, the deputy secretary-general of the Joint Secretariat of the student Sports Association of the Ministry of Education and the head of the delegation, This World Winter Games is the first time that China has selected middle school students to participate in the world comprehensive winter games. The team members and the selection of athletes insist on openness, the principles of fairness and justice are all selected through trials. Each team has been training in Changbai Mountain, Jilin (skiing events) and Tianjin (ice project) since January 26.
Liu Lixin, secretary general of the Joint Secretariat of the student Sports Association of the Ministry of Education and vice chairman of the Chinese Middle School Sports Association, said that he believed that the selected student athletes would fight tenaciously on the court, winning and losing, while showing the elegant demeanour of our youth, we should strengthen communication with the youth of the world, broaden our international vision, tell Chinese stories well, and further promote the development of ice and snow sports in our campus.
The World middle school student Winter Games is hosted by the International Middle School Student Sports Federation. This event will be held in Erzurum, Turkey from February 12-18, with alpine skiing, biathlon, cross-country skiing, cold water jug, figure skating, ice hockey, there are 8 big items and 30 small items such as ski orientation and snowboard.
The reporter checked the list of Chinese delegations and found that there were more players in alpine skiing and snowboard teams from ordinary middle schools, while cross-country skiing and team cold water jug have been the main players in sports schools. In the figure skating team, four ice dancers came from the Affiliated High School of Beijing Dance Academy. Since 2018, the affiliated high school of North dance has cooperated with China Figure Skating Association to try to integrate sports and education.
