Women’s football World Cup referee announced that Chinese referee Xie Lijun was selected as assistant referee

Xinhua News Agency, Geneva, January 9 (reporter Shan Lei) FIFA Referee Committee announced the list of referees for the 2023 Women’s football World Cup on the 9th. Chinese referee Xie Lijun was selected as an assistant referee.

The 2023 Women’s football World Cup will be held in Australia and New Zealand from July 20 to August 20. Among the lists released by FIFA on that day, there were 33 referees, 55 assistant referees and 19 video referees.

Xie Lijun, who was included in the list of assistant referees, came from Sichuan and has enforced many domestic and international competitions. In 2022, Xie Lijun participated in the enforcement of U17 Women’s football World Cup.

FIFA said that all the candidates are judges who have performed well in international and domestic competitions in recent years, and the level of each referee has been strictly inspected and screened.

In the 2022 Qatar men’s World Cup, Chinese referees Ma Ning, Shi Xiang and Cao Yi were selected into the referee list. This was the first time in 20 years that Chinese referees participated in the enforcement work of the men’s World Cup. Ma Ning served as the fourth official in the six group matches, while Shi Xiang and Cao Yi served as alternate assistant referees in the three matches respectively.
