It does not meet the strategic direction of the Football Association. The Indian Football Association withdraws the 2027 Asian Cup bid request.

BEIJING, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) according to the website of the Indian Football Association, the Indian Football Association will withdraw its bid request for the 2027 Asian Cup because the management believes that holding large-scale events does not conform to the strategic direction of the Football Association. “Our current focus is to establish an appropriate Football Foundation before considering holding a large-scale event like the Asian Cup.” The Indian Football Association wrote in a statement.

The President of the Indian Football Association said: “India has always been an excellent and efficient host for hosting large-scale events, which has been fully proved in the recently concluded FIFA U-17 women’s football World Cup. However, our current overall strategy is still to strengthen the development of all levels from grassroots to youth training. We will also work closely with local football associations and clubs to change all aspects of domestic football.”

The secretary general of the Indian Football Association said: “Our strategy is very simple. Before planning to hold a large-scale event, we must give priority to developing this sport, now our focus should be to jointly promote the development of Indian football.”

In October this year, the Asian Football Association announced that India and Saudi Arabia were the final candidates for the 2027 Asian Cup. At that time, it was also decided that the venue of the tournament would be determined at the FIFA Congress held in February 2023. (Finished)
