Yuan Ye is a short track speed skating coach in Changchun Winter Sports Management Center. For him and his team members, this competition is very important and a good opportunity to experience.

In the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics, Yuan Ye and his teammates won the bronze medal in the 5000-meter relay of short track speed skating. In the 1999 and 2000 short track speed skating world championships, Yuan Ye and his teammates won the relay championship. Some people said, he was born for relay.

“We will (more than 20 years ago) mainly compare speed, and now compare personal skills, team tactics, how to occupy space, surpass and save physical strength, etc.” Yuan Ye said that athletes can only see a small range in front of them on the court. Coaches need to guide their tactics and control rhythm on the spot. After the game, they also need to help everyone sum up their experience and point out their shortcomings.

Zhang Shiqi, 12 years old this year, has been practicing short track speed skating hard for three years, and his grades are better every year. In last November, she won the first place in the “Sports Lottery Cup” youth short track speed skating series (the first stop) in Changchun city in 2022, and her mother Liu Jie was very proud of it after winning the first place in the women’s Group B’s 1500 m, 1000 m and 500 m competitions, the mobile phone is full of photos and videos of the daughter competition.

Liu Hui said that her daughter had learned piano and dance before. Short track speed skating was her favorite, and training was also the hardest. She trained six days a week. She believes that her future daughter will be on a bigger arena.

Yi Shan, the manager of Changchun Sports Center, worked in the ice project venue for ten years. She said that Changchun is the only city in China that has the Winter Olympics ice project and the skiing events double champion. Over the years, new ice machines, advanced protective pad, and brand-new ice rink laying technologies have been applied to venues. Various large-scale events have continued, prompting the increasing number of people participating in ice sports and the emergence of new stars.

Yishan said, especially the ice and snow sports fever caused by the Beijing Winter Olympics made more and more children like ice sports. Some parents specially came to Changchun to study skills for their children’s dreams.

Zhao Yuhao, 11 years old this year, comes from Liaoning. He practiced roller skating since childhood, but he wants to be a short track speed skater like Wu Dajing. At the beginning of last year, his father Zhao Bo brought him to Changchun in order to win his son’s “champion dream. He believes that children can get better training conditions and learn more advanced competition techniques here. “In this competition, the child has been playing steadily, and I will always support him to practice.”

Yuan Ye saw his figure in these children and said frankly, “their level has exceeded that of me.” Yuan Ye’s “relay race” continues-training a new generation of short track speed skaters, he hopes to get out of this field more excellent athletes like Wu Dajing. (Finished)
