A few days ago, China Bicycle Association released a message showing that in 2022, enterprises above the scale in China’s bicycle industry achieved a revenue of 210 billion yuan, up 3% year on year, and realized a profit exceeding 10 billion yuan, the year-on-year growth rate was more than 20%, and the economic benefits of the industry continued to improve.
“Facing the influence of uncertainties at home and abroad, China’s bicycle industry withstood the pressure, accelerated the transformation and upgrading, and the main indicators such as annual output and revenue were basically the same as before the epidemic.” Guo Wenyu, vice chairman and secretary general of China Bicycle Association, told the reporter.
The product structure continues to be optimized. According to incomplete statistics, the domestic sales of medium and high-grade sports bicycles increased by more than 30% year on year in 2022. At the same time, the average unit price of each export product reached 89 US dollars, an increase of 20.9 percent year-on-year, and the added value of the product increased significantly. The output of lightweight and intelligent electric bicycles has increased significantly, and electric bicycles with intelligent functions are favored by young consumers. In the past two years, the domestic sales growth rate of electric bicycles exceeded 20%.
Digital intelligence continues to advance. At the production end, welding robots, painting robots, assembly line feeding robots and other applications are wider, and more than 20% of industry enterprises have carried out automatic upgrading and transformation of production lines. On the consumer side, technologies such as big data and the internet of things have accelerated the application, and new models such as sharing bicycles and centralized charging and switching of electricity have emerged.
“China is the world’s largest bicycle production and exporting country, and the international competitive advantage and industrial chain resilience formed by the long-term accumulation of the industry are still strong.” Guo Wenyu analyzed that the bicycle industry will maintain steady growth after the market recovers this year.
Based on the travel data survey of 8 cities including Beijing, Changsha and Chengdu, China Cycling Association released the 2022 two-round green travel index research report, which shows that, about 30 of every 100 trips of urban residents in China are completed by two rounds, and two rounds of trips have gradually become an important choice for residents’ daily trips. As an effective solution to the “last kilometer” of travel, two rounds of travel around rail stations in China account for more than 20% of the total travel volume. In addition, with the gradual improvement of people’s awareness of reducing carbon emissions, bicycle travel is also more popular. According to statistics, the country reduces carbon emissions by about 10000 tons due to two rounds of travel every day. According to the calculation of 8 liters of fuel consumption per hundred kilometers, it is equivalent to saving about 6.6 million liters of gasoline.
“Facing new opportunities, the bicycle industry will create effective demand through high-quality supply, continue to expand the supply of medium and high-end products, continuously improve the level of intelligent greening, and improve the technical content and added value of products.” Guo Wenyu said.
