Kobe’s widow was awarded a compensation of $28.85 million, ending the lawsuit that lasted nearly three years.

BEIJING, March 1 (Xinhua) — According to foreign media reports, on Tuesday, local time, Los Angeles agreed to pay $28.85 million compensation to the family of NBA star Kobe, ending the lawsuit which lasted nearly three years.

In January 2020, Kobe and his second daughter Gigi and other nine people died in a helicopter accident. Several police officers were suspected of taking and sharing photos of the scene of the accident. Kobe’s widow, Wanisha, sued the Los Angeles Police Department and other departments.

Vanisa said it made her feel uncomfortable. She was always worried that the horrible photos of her husband and children would spread to the Internet after their death. She didn’t want strangers to see these.

As early as last August, the city of Los Angeles was sentenced to compensate Wanisha for $16 million. According to foreign media reports, Wanisha decided to donate all the compensation to the Mamba & Mamba Chita Sports Foundation at that time.

And now, this lawsuit which lasted for nearly three years finally comes to fruition. Kobe’s lawyer said: “Kobe’s widow bravely asked those with absurd behaviors to be responsible, and today he has won a landmark victory.”
