Member Wang Yongfeng: deepening the integration of sports and education and promoting the development of emerging Olympic projects

Wang Yongfeng, member of the CPPCC National Committee, deputy director of the mountaineering center of the General Administration of Sports, and vice chairman of the Chinese Mountaineering Association, paid close attention to the related issues of reserve talents training and sports education integration. This year, he brought two proposals, one is about the sports department and colleges and universities to build a reserve talent training system for new Olympic Games projects, and the other is about accelerating the construction of sports traditional characteristic schools and deepening the integration of sports and education.

“It is very good for CPPCC members to continue to investigate, voice and do one thing.” Previously, as a member of the 12th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, Wang Yongfeng was very concerned about this issue. He said: “This time I also had an exchange with other committee members. There were both practical and theoretical experts among them. Everyone made joint efforts to investigate and study together, strive to make the proposal more solid and better.”

Wang Yongfeng said that the report of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China proposed to “speed up the construction of a sports power”, so while maintaining traditional advantageous projects such as table tennis and diving, it is also necessary to continuously strengthen the support and guarantee for new Olympic games such as rock climbing, skiing and mountaineering, and skateboarding, and plus-sized the training of reserve talents for new Olympic Games.

Wang Yongfeng believes that the shortage of reserve talents, technical talents and insufficient infrastructure are the main problems existing in the development of China’s emerging Olympic Games. School sports is the basis for training reserve talents of competitive sports. He suggested that sports departments could jointly build a reserve talents training system for emerging Olympic Games projects with colleges and universities. At the same time, it is necessary to establish a cooperation mechanism between the sports department and colleges and universities, build a pilot college for training reserve talents for emerging Olympic Games projects, strengthen the construction and training of coach teams, and innovate the talent training mode.

In the proposal of accelerating the construction of traditional characteristic sports schools and deepening the integration of sports and education, Wang Yongfeng mentioned the “Mashan model”. Since the first special sports town of rock climbing in the country was settled in Mashan county, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region in August, 2017, the local area has deeply built a special brand of rock climbing, actively developed rock climbing and implemented the plan of “Rock climbing into campus. Over the past few years, Mashan county has built 23 “Rock climbing into the campus” venues, with a rock climbing wall area of 2665 square meters. It has built many rock climbing characteristic schools and initially formed a sports and education integration mode featuring rock climbing. Mashan County’s “Rock climbing into campus” plan is also listed as a typical case of sports and education integration in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region.

Based on this, Wang Yongfeng put forward five suggestions in the proposal. The first is to strengthen policy guidance and improve top-level design; The second is to promote the integration of departments and realize resource sharing; The third is to deepen reform and innovation and broaden support and guarantee; The fourth is to perfect the competition system and perfect the evaluation mechanism; the fifth is to give full play to demonstration and guidance and promote the “Mashan model”.
