According to Ding Youming, the Party secretary of the Xinjiang Sports Bureau, the first Winter Games in Xinjiang was hosted by the People’s Government of Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region and undertaken by the sports bureau of the autonomous region and the administrative office of Altay region. It was opened in Altay region on December 30, 2022. it lasted 52 days and completed 10 major competitions of speed skating, cross-country skiing, alpine skiing and other competitive sports and 15 activities of popular sports.
During the competition, 92 teams of 14 delegations from all over Xinjiang participated in the competitive sports competition with more than 1,000 people, resulting in 104 gold medals, 103 silver medals and 98 bronze medals, set 38 sports records. Public sports activities include 428 series of activities such as national mass ice and snow season, winter community games, youth winter camp, “Forum on the construction and operation of ice and snow venues” and “Forum on the cultivation of ice and snow reserve talents, the number of participants exceeded 600000.
In addition, the first Winter Games in Xinjiang specially invited more than 100 players from six provinces including Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, Zhejiang, Shandong and Guangdong to participate in the sub-project competition of the sports department, compete with Xinjiang ice and snow teenagers for Xueyuan.
Ding Youming said: “The successful holding of the first Winter Games has further stimulated the enthusiasm of the people of all ethnic groups in Xinjiang to participate in the ice and snow sports, consolidating and expanding the achievements of ‘driving 0.3 billion people to participate in the ice and snow sports, it has effectively improved the competitive level of ice and snow sports in Xinjiang, explored and trained a large number of excellent reserve talents, and promoted the development of ice and snow industry in Xinjiang.”
It is reported that as the host of the main competition area of the first Winter Games in Xinjiang, Altay region topped all prefectures in Xinjiang with 102 medals of 44 gold, 33 silver and 25 copper, and Urumqi ranked second. (Finished)
