BEIJING, March 14 (Xinhua) (Hao Lingyu) 2023 national wheelchair basketball training camp ended in Beijing on 14th. The 14-day training camp aims to enhance communication and select young athletes and prepare the national wheelchair basketball team for this year’s international competition.
More than 70 athletes and 6 coaches from 6 provinces and cities across the country participated in this training camp. In addition to open classes and group training, each team also held exchange competitions. In the end, the men’s and women’s wheelchair basketball teams in Guangdong province played an excellent role in the training camp exchange, winning the men’s and women’s team championships respectively.
Chen Qi, the former coach of the national women’s wheelchair basketball team, is the coach of two Guangdong teams. He said that in addition to communication and learning, he also found many potential young athletes. The next step will be to systematically cultivate these players in the aspects of controlling wheelchair technology, tactical positioning and fengshui ball ability.
When talking about future international competitions, Chen Qi said that young athletes lack competition exercise at present and plan to let them get familiar with their opponents as soon as possible through future international competitions and complete the improvement on the basis of the original level.
Lin Suiling, the former captain of the national women’s wheelchair basketball team, participated in this training camp. She said that this training camp was a rare opportunity, and the confrontation with new opponents made herself find a lot of problems, and then she would conduct more targeted training.
Ma Jing, vice minister of the Second Department of competition and training of China Disabled Sports Management Center, said that the training camp has brought together provinces and cities that are relatively good at wheelchair basketball in China, and has built an exchange and learning platform for athletes and coaches. In the future, the training camp plan will be further improved, athletes will be selected in a wider range, and talents will be transported for wheelchair basketball.
