In June this year, the Paris Olympic organizing committee proposed to the International Basketball Federation that the preliminary stage of the basketball competition in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games would be held in Lille, more than 200 kilometers away from the north of Paris, and the final stage would be moved back to Paris. This proposal was opposed by the International Basketball Federation at that time, because the Paris Olympic organizing committee was to meet people’s demand for watching the handball game, and the handball game was interchanged with the basketball game venue.
After the meeting on the 2nd, the International Basketball Federation announced: “The International Basketball Federation has seriously considered the unusual reasons proposed by the Paris Olympic organizing committee and the International Olympic Committee to change to the Lille Arena, considering the continuous approach of the event and the efforts made by various parties, it is an exception to decide to agree to change the venue if conditions permit.”
In addition, the meeting also decided that the draw ceremony of the 2023 basketball World Cup will be held in Manila, Philippines on April 29, 2023. Next year’s men’s basketball World Cup will be held in the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia.
